this piece definitely has the potential to be much longer. fitting this one within the word-count was a challenge, and unfortunately the section on contemporary hip-hop had to be overly condensed in particular. (i didn't even have the space to write about some of my favourite groups and artists - The pharcyde, j dilla, freddie gibbs, digable planets, to name just a few of what could be an endless list).
nonetheless, this piece is still a great read, and the research it initiated was a very enjoyable process that has helped me enjoy this genre further.
